An American Steam beer (a.k.a. Californian Common beer) is the only indigenous American beer still being produced. It will be copper in color and will possess a pronounced hop character in both bitterness and aroma which is derived from the strict use of Northern Brewers hops. It should be clear and brilliant when chilled. It will have high carbonation with good head retention.
