The Single Hop Challenge

This recipe is intended for use in discovering the use and impact of hops on a simple malt platform. All uses of hops are totally up to the brewer as he becomes the brewmaster. There are no right or wrong ways to use the hop variety that you select. You might consider making this recipe again and again, using different hops each time or by varying the additions.

Yeast is totally up to you as well. Again there is no right or wrong selections that you can make. Get crazy with this recipe and do things that you have been thinking about trying. You can’t screw it up as long as you have good sanitizing habits and techniques.

This recipe will consist of 6 pounds of Munton's DME, Carapils malt and Crystal 10L malt, whirlfloc and priming sugar.

Select 4 ounces of your favorite hop (a single hop). Use the hops as you see fit to bring out the bittering, flavoring and/or aromatic characteristics. Select your own yeast.

• You have a choice of Extract or All-Grain recipes which must be purchased from AltBev. This is how you register. (See special price below.)
• You have a choice of hops, 4 ounces of any single hop variety to be used on your own hop schedule.
• You must use all 4 ounces of hops and all the ingredients from the recipe.
• Choose any yeast.  You may use a yeast starter if you like. 
• Bottle your beer into three, unmarked, 12-ounce amber bottles. 
• The week of April 22nd, you can begin to drop off your entries at either the Belmont locations. The entry will be kept refrigerated until the time of the judging.
• You do not have to present to win.
