Big Brew 2024 Review
Celebrate the 27th annual Big Brew on May 4, 2024
Big Brew was held under the threat of rain to celebrate National Homebrew Day. We had eight (8) patrons participating in the on-site brewing session. We probably had another 20-30 patrons come down to the venue to swap beers and war stories. We opened up at 8:30 and some patrons were mashing in by 9am. All the participants were able to set-up under the shelter with plenty of room to spare.
A judging of the Single Hop Challenge was won by
Bethany Burr & Roberta Hofmeister using Sabro hops - $50 Gift Card
Mark Wilson was 2nd using Idaho 7 - $30 Gift Card
Keith Mcfee was 3rd using Mosaic - $20 Gift Card
I think everyone had a good time except for one, maybe. Unfortunately Tom H had the misfortune of having completed the mashing and chill down process deprived of the fermentation process because his wort decided it wanted to make a hasty retreat to the Catawba. Rolling his kettle back from the chill station, the cart took an unanticipated turn and dumped the kettle of wort into the river.
At 1pm, we raised our glasses in recognition of AHA efforts to create a unifying toast along with hundreds of other Big Brew venues around the country and the world.

Belmont Brewhouse supplied the filter water and we supplied hot dogs.
Alternative Beverage set up a chilling stations for cooling the wort.It was a very good day to be a homebrewers and being able to socialize with other friends and patrons in this very rewarding hobby. Hope you can join us next year on May 3rd when we'll do it all again.
