Single Hop Competitiion 2020

This competition has been postponed until the virus threat has subsided, we are hoping for a June to July event in conjunction with BIG BREW which has likewise been postponed.

We are proud to announce our Single Hop Home brew Competition that will be judged at our Big Brew event which is held on the First Saturday in May - May 2nd.

This competition is open to everyone and should be a good way to experience the total attributes of a single variety of hops in a controlled batch of beer. Both ALL-Grain and extract versions of the recipe are available. There are no entry fees for brewers buying our ingredient kits, others will need to pay a $5 entry fee.

Hops and yeast are not included in the ingredient kits so the styles of beer are somewhat limited. Brewers MUST use at least 4 ounces of the same hop with no limit to the amount of hops you can use. Hops, of coarse, are used to impart bitterness, flavoring or aroma to a beer depending on their use, so get crazy and have fun.

The ALL-Grain Ingredient kit will consist of: 9 pounds of American 2-row malt
1 pound of American Carapils malt
1 pound of American Caramel (Crystal) malt - 60 loviband
5.2 pH Stabilizer, Whirlfloc tablet and 3/4 cup of Priming Sugar are also included in the kit. The kit is priced at $19.99.

The Extract Ingredient kit will consist of: 6 pounds of Munton's Light Dried Malt Extract
1 pound of American Carapils malt
1 pound of American Caramel (Crystal) malt - 60 loviband
Large Muslin Bag (for Specialty Malts), Whirlfloc tablet and 1 cup of Priming Sugar are also included in the kit. The kit is priced at $31.79.

The judging of the entries will be during our Big Brew Event which is held in our shady lake side park with its expansive grassy area is an inviting place to spend a lazy Saturday. Bring lawn chairs, coolers, Frisbees and other yard games. Did I say bring beer - yes, please bring your favorite homebrew or other favorite beverages to share (if you wish) with others. Bring the whole family, it will be fun. Pets on a leash will be the owners responsibility.

Entries will be limited to 12 ounce amber beer bottles with no distinguishing characteristics, no labels or distinctive bottle caps.

The winner entry will receive a $50 Gift Card and the beer will be brewed at Belmont Brewing Co in Belmont
